A Few Words
About Myself
Engineering is a passion be it a professional career or one of many engineering hobbies or projects, I’ve always had an interest in how things work and how to improve or adapt them. To understand and appreciate the engineering of all things. Be it as a young kid working “helping” my uncle around the farm or on his trucks if it has wheels and an engine I was there.
But where does home energy and heat loss come from? that would be narrow boats, they are a full off grid eco system involving many aspects of engineering, propulsion, power generation, storage and distribution. Heating, plumbing and insulation. I’ve applied these skills in my career and in hobbies of off grid solar systems, Campervan conversion and renovating my own home which can be found in the case studies. computer networks and most things tech.
As a professional career I’m a trained avionics/ Aircraft electrical engineer, GNVQ in electronics and electrical design then an Apprenticeship with Airbus, then contracting on Lockheed Hercules c 130, Boeing Chinooks briefly working on Nimrod and Raf Shadow aircraft where I progressed to managing the design office. What I learnt there is engineering decisions need to be based on data driven facts, and in complex design with relatively big team there is a lot of data. This data side was an interest for me, processing flight test data using Matlab, EAC data and team performance, then product structures and report generation using advanced excel and power bi.
So when a new career path decision was needed home energy and technology that involved data seem an obvious path to take. I believe that I can bring something to this sector, I’ve a keen interest in the technology but technology that makes a real impact not just selling snake oil or overpriced “smart” devices for the sake of it. Since my own home renovation in 2011 I choose to go the heat pump route before the Green deal was even launched because it seemed the best option that was not oil. being early I also witnessed companies increase their prices overnight on the Green deal launch. I’ve strong ethic that the price of products should be fair for the product or service it provides and any advice that i give is based on what I would do or choose for that solution.
